January can put extra pressure on a household budget. The holidays are over, bills are arriving, and many Cincinnati families are still waiting for tax season to fully begin. For taxpayers in Roselawn, Bond Hill, Avondale, and surrounding neighborhoods, getting access to part of an expected refund sooner can make a meaningful difference.
The Cincinnati tax refund advance from Titan Tax is designed to help bridge that gap. At our Roselawn office on Reading Road, qualifying clients may apply for an advance of up to $7,000 based on their expected federal tax refund.
Titan Tax begins offering Refund Advances on January 2. However, approval is not guaranteed. The amount available depends on your expected refund, identity verification, eligibility requirements, and underwriting. Here is how the process works and what you should bring when you come in.
How the Cincinnati tax refund advance works
A tax refund advance is a short-term loan based on your anticipated federal tax refund. First, your tax preparer completes your return and calculates your expected refund. If you choose to apply for the advance, your application then goes through the applicable approval process.
If approved, eligible clients may receive advance funds before the IRS sends the actual federal refund. The Refund Advance is separate from the IRS refund itself. When the federal refund is eventually issued, the advance amount is deducted from the tax refund according to the product terms.
Keep in mind that approval and timing can vary. Although many electronically filed federal refunds are issued within about three weeks when there are no processing issues, some returns take longer. In addition, federal law prevents the IRS from issuing refunds that include the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit before mid-February.
How much Refund Advance can you get?
Titan Tax offers qualifying clients a Refund Advance of up to $7,000. However, not every applicant will qualify for the maximum amount.
Your potential advance depends in part on the size of your expected federal refund. Income, filing status, dependents, withholding, and refundable tax credits can all affect that amount.
For example, families who qualify for credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit may receive a larger federal refund than taxpayers with similar income who do not qualify for those credits. Still, the size of your refund does not guarantee approval for a specific advance amount.
Your tax preparer can calculate your expected refund when preparing your return. Refund Advance approval is then determined according to the applicable eligibility and underwriting requirements.
What can affect your Refund Advance?
Several factors can affect the amount you receive or whether your application is approved.
- Your expected federal refund. Because the advance is based on your anticipated refund, a smaller expected refund may limit the amount available.
- Eligibility and underwriting. Refund Advances are subject to approval, identity verification, eligibility requirements, and underwriting.
- Missing tax documents. Your preparer needs accurate information to complete your return. Missing W-2s, 1099s, dependent information, or other required documents can delay the process.
- Possible refund offsets. Certain past-due federal or state taxes, child support, and qualifying government debts may reduce a federal tax refund. A reduced refund can also affect the amount available for an advance.
What to bring for your Cincinnati tax refund advance
Coming prepared can make the filing process much easier. Depending on your tax situation, you may need:
- A valid government-issued photo ID
- Social Security or ITIN information for everyone included on the return
- W-2 forms from every employer you worked for during 2026
- 1099 forms for freelance, rideshare, delivery, contract, or other applicable income
- Documents related to other income, deductions, or tax credits that may apply to you
- Bank account and routing information if needed for your refund or related tax products
- Your prior-year tax return if available
Every return is different, so your preparer may request additional documents based on your individual tax situation.
When does the 2027 Refund Advance start?
Titan Tax offers bank Refund Advances from January 2 through March 15. Our Cincinnati office can begin helping clients prepare for tax season before the IRS officially starts accepting individual federal income tax returns.
The IRS announces the official opening date of each filing season separately. Therefore, preparing your documents early can help you get ready to file once electronic filing becomes available.
However, filing early does not mean you should file an incomplete return. Make sure you have received the tax forms and income documents that apply to you before submitting your return.
Prepare early and protect your tax information
Tax-related identity theft happens when someone uses another person’s Social Security number or ITIN to file a fraudulent tax return and claim a refund. Preparing early can help you avoid unnecessary delays once you have all of your documents.
For additional protection, the IRS also offers an Identity Protection PIN, or IP PIN. This six-digit number helps prevent someone else from filing a federal tax return using your Social Security number or ITIN.
